Founded on the belief that Medicare should be understandable and personal, Thomas Family Insurance grew from one person’s passion into a trusted agency serving the Quincy tri-state area. Rick spent years with Humana before 2009 helping clients with Medicare, and he saw the limits of representing only one company, so he built an independent agency that compares plans across carriers so clients truly benefit. This is a family business where you are not a number; Rick’s wife and children are licensed agents who treat clients like extended family with respect, clarity, and compassion. We do not view appointments as transactions, we support clients for life through changes in health, circumstances, and Medicare rules.

Meet Our Team

Before founding Thomas Family Insurance, Rick Thomas spent 11 years as a school teacher—an experience that shaped his entire approach to helping people understand Medicare. Today, he’s still teaching, but his students are a little older and he no longer has to explain fractions.

As a lifelong educator, Rick believes that understanding Medicare shouldn’t be stressful. His mission is to break down complex information into plain English so every client can make confident, informed decisions. Based in Quincy, Illinois, he leads a family-run agency that serves clients across Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri with the same patience, clarity, and trust he once brought to his classroom.

Under Rick’s leadership, Thomas Family Insurance has become known for its educational workshops, one-on-one guidance, and honest, no-pressure approach to Medicare. Whether helping someone compare plans or plan ahead for retirement coverage, Rick treats each client like family—because that’s exactly what the agency was built on.

A devoted San Francisco 49ers fan since the 1980s, Rick recently checked off a lifelong bucket list dream when he and his daughter Ariel traveled to California for a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with two of his football heroes, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice—along with several other 49er legends.

Jackie became a licensed agent in 2019. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jackie brings both West Coast heart and Midwest warmth to everyone she meets. Jackie has always had a gift for understanding people—what makes them tick, what worries them, and what gives them peace of mind.  Jackie’s joy for life, love for her family, and dedication to helping others shines through in everything she does. Jackie loves to garden and listening to live music.

Ariel Thomas is the creative force behind much of what makes Thomas Family Insurance stand out. As both a licensed agent and the agency’s in house designer, she brings a sharp artistic eye and bold ideas to every project—turning complex Medicare topics into clear, visually engaging materials that clients actually enjoy reading.

Art has always been her language. From digital design and illustration to photography and layout, Ariel approaches marketing with the same precision she brings to her insurance work—focused, intentional, and a little bit perfectionist. Her designs appear in TFI’s flyers, booklets, videos, and the “Medicare Maze” campaign that helps clients learn through storytelling and visuals rather than fine print.

She’s also fiercely driven to master the business side of the agency. Ariel is constantly expanding her knowledge of Medicare, life insurance, and client communication, determined to help take Thomas Family Insurance to the next level.

Outside the office, Ariel’s world revolves around animals. She’s an unapologetic animal lover who can name every rescue in the Tri-State area and believes any office is better with a furry co-worker or two.

Carter Thomas brings strength, determination, and heart to Thomas Family

Insurance—qualities forged by experience. As a childhood cancer survivor, Carter understands firsthand why the right coverage matters. That perspective drives everything he does today as an agent, giving him a deep sense of purpose when helping clients protect their health and families.

Before joining the family business full-time in May 2025, Carter worked as a sous chef at a local country club, where he developed a passion for cooking and teamwork. He now channels that same creativity and discipline into serving clients—approaching each appointment like a recipe for success: prepared, precise, and personal.

Outside of work, Carter stays active in the gym and takes pride in caring for his girlfriend and her daughter, who inspire him to live with gratitude and purpose. His experience with cancer gives him a unique empathy for others facing health challenges, and he uses that perspective to make sure clients feel supported and secure in their coverage decisions.
